My Story
I grew up in Waynoka, OK and attended the local Church of God until my latter grade school years. Consequently, I knew everything a child should know about Jesus: he is God, he is perfect, he died for our sins, etc. During my 8th grade year, I began being inexplicably drawn back to church. A close friend attended the Baptist church in town, so I went with him and gave my life to the Lord a few years later, although it wasn’t until a few years after this that God really began changing my heart.
If surveyed during my growing up years as to the “best” kids in town, the Waynoka residents would have likely mentioned my name. While it is true that I did stay out of a great deal of trouble, my heart was dark. I was, in fact, a “whitewashed tomb” mentioned in Matthew 23:27, but Jesus Christ began to show me that while my heart was dark, his is full of light! He has been changing my heart into the likeness of his ever since. While a member at FBC, Fairview, OK, God placed within me the desire to teach His Word and shepherd His flock though various teaching and preaching opportunities. Nothing less than teaching the Bible will do.
My Prayer for FBC Helena
It is my prayer that the people of FBC Helena can worship Jesus Christ more fully, become increasingly passionate toward living lives fully devoted to him, and reach out to show the love of God to those around us who so desperately need it.
Russell Nickel - Worship Leader/Sunday School Teacher Hello,
I would like to personally encourage you to make church attendance and more importantly a daily walk with the Lord a priority in your life. The bible tells us as believers Not to Forsake Gathering Together. As a matter of fact, the lack of Church committment and a concern for others is a major sign of the end times since the scripture tells us that in the last days, the love of many will wax cold and many will fall away from the faith.
I believe these are questions that we as Christians should ask ourselves daily. Do I have compassion for my brothers and sisters in Christ? Do I have a compassion for the lost? Do I have compassion for my pastor and other members of my church and pray for them daily? Do I seek wisdom that ONLY comes through daily prayer and the meditation of Gods' word?
One thing that we seem to get good at in life is identifying the faults in other people and specifically other believers. Jesus commented on this when He stated that we are many times concerned about a speck in our brother or sisters eye and are not concerned or even notice a board in our own eye. The point is that we as Christians need to always be in a process of examining our own personal lives and comparing them to the examples of Christ. I don't know about you, but when I do this, I find I have plenty of work to do in my own life.
I encourage you to make church a priority in your life. Remember, if we know Christ in a personal way, we've got alot to be thankful for. Aren't you thankful that even while we were sinners, Christ was willing to die for you and me? Forgiving others of their faults is alot easier when we remember we have a Saviour who was willing to forgive us. The bible tells us in Corinthians that our life is like building a house with ofcourse, the foundation built upon Jesus Christ. How's your house coming? Is it all made up of wood and stubble or is your life built upon the gold and precious stones of Christian service that will NOT burn up? See you in Church?
Your Brother in Christ
